PROGRAMME

Day 1.

Departure from Budapest around 13:00. We take our bus and head to Tihany Peninsula with the Benedictine Abbey on the top. Having visited the Abbey, listened to the Tihanyi Echo and enjoyed the panorama from the terrace we leave to a small village, Köveskál. We check-in to our picturesque little hotel and get freshened up. Wine dinner will be at the restaurant of the hotel with the presentation of one of the regions’ best known winemaker.

Day 2.

Please dress comfortably, since we will have a short walking tour to the village of Monoszló. It takes 4 kilometres easy walking. We enjoy an exclusive tasting with cold local farmers products, in a truly Mediterranean atmosphere at Liszkay Winery. We will have time to explore the nature and talk about the most important things of life while we hike back to Köveskál. Having finished your physical exercise you will have a free afternoon to relax and enjoy the surroundings or visit a local art gallery. We will have dinner at a state-of-the-art restaurant in the village, near to our hotel.

Day 3.

After breakfast and check-out we depart to a local market or small scale cheese producer or a lavender farm upon availability. A vineyard or cellar tour and tasting will be in Balatonfüred at the most emblematic wineries of the region. We taste mostly white varietals, maybe a rose. We leave to Budapest late in the afternoon.

ABOUT THE WINE REGION

Viticulture in this part of Pannonia possibly started before the Roman Conquest and was certainly highly advanced during the tenure of the Romans here. A wealth of written evidence shows that viticulture in the area that is the Balatonfüred – Csopak wine region today was well-established in the earliest centuries of the Hungarian nation. Realatively mild winter is followed by early spring, summer is usually quite long but not too hot and autumn is generally long, bright and dry. Medium temperature of the year is around 10 degrees Celsius: and the number of sunny hours rises above two thousand.
